More Info on Criterion Restaurant

The Criterion Restaurant is the only culinary destination in the capital blessed with the romance, grandeur and charisma of a neo-Byzantine design. It has been described as one of the most enchanting and memorable restaurants in London. Combining the alluring architecture, the flawless service, the compelling history and the unrivalled cuisine, you can understand why the Criterion Restaurant has been so revered and admired since it first opened its doors in 1873. If the walls could talk, they would surely whisper to you their secrets…some of which would include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s imaginary meeting between Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes at the Criterion Long Bar, or the charged negotiations between Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George and of course the celebrations at the Royal College of Science’s first dinner with the chairman being the none other H.G Wells.

The Criterion is now owned by Vins Holdings’ who operate on an international scale, and the Criterion is currently the company’s flagship restaurant. It has had a gentle and sympathetic restoration and new staff has been taken on board, including a highly acclaimed chef.

The tantalising new menu is clearly one of the main reasons why visitors both recommend and return to the restaurant. With signature dishes including Gloucester Old Spot Pork cooked three ways, Ostrich fillet and a selection of seafood, which is all sourced from the United Kingdom, it is clear to see why. The fish is caught and delivered every day from Looe in Cornwall, and lamb and pork sourced and delivered fresh from Cumbria it is evident that the chef, Matthew Foxon, will leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of excellence. He also prides himself with providing the best quality meat hung on the premises to a minimum of 5 weeks to ensure the best flavour. He also bakes fresh bread, churns his own butter and makes fresh ice cream.

Together with its irresistible combination of style, location, cuisine and exemplary service, the Criterion Restaurant is the perfect choice of venue if you are looking to create an unforgettable event whether it be a gathering family, a Christmas party, wedding reception, Luncheon, Dinner or a somewhere to enjoy a meal with a group of friends.
