The Boiler House at Battersea Power Station

Monday, March 8th, 2010

bat

Long-term plans for the development of London’s iconic Battersea Power Station have a bit of a chequered history but from sharing the cover of Pink Floyd’s 1977 Animals album with an inflatable pig (which cut loose and flew into the Heathrow flight-path) to hosting concerts, festivals and winter sports’ events to starring in Batman: The Dark Knight and The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus, the venue certainly knows how to party!

And now, The Boiler House, set within the Power Station’s walls, is set to become London’s premier event venue.

The space is exclusively managed by Industri who hold a licence for the next 3 years.

A glass ceiling allows guests a stunning view of the building’s exterior and dramatic façade as does a 30m outdoor viewing deck. The Boiler House is licensed to hold 700 seated banquet guests and up to 1000 standing.

And if you want to check it out for yourselves, there’s an exclusive Invitation Only showcase for events’ professionals on Tuesday 9 March with food, drink and special effects from preferred suppliers which will see the venue illuminated by amazing backdrop visuals.

Snow Leopard Spring Party

Snow Kittens and Ice Sculpture at Sanctuary 2

We don’t need much persuading when it comes to attending a party but Thursday’s bash at Aura nightclub is a definite no-brainer.

It’s all in aid of the Snow Leopard Trust, set up in 1997 to preserve the existence of these beautiful creatures, of which only 3500 remain in the wild today across Mongolia and the mountain ranges of Asia.

Snow Leopards are routinely slaughtered by herders as they have a reputation for killing livestock so the Trust has instigated a community-based conservation program working with locals. It provides the herders with the training and support they need to turn their raw wool into fine handicrafts for the international market and in return, they agree to refrain from poaching the leopard and its key prey.

Let your imagination run wild with the ‘Spirit of Adventure’ dress code (though no real fur – obviously), make new friends at the Snow Leopard vodka luge and leave with a warm and fuzzy feeling that isn’t based entirely on your booze consumption.

Thursday 11th March 2010, 8pm-10pm complimentary Snow Leopard cocktails, cash bar afterwards
Tickets £25 from www.charitygiving.co.uk/charityshop/product.asp?id=472&cat=38

Silence is golden

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

Loud music can really put a spoke in the wheels when it comes to communicating with people at parties. Larger than life decibel levels turn conversations into miming acts and the next morning the ringing in your ears is still there; not to mention the copious complaints from your neighbors, who tell you that the music was lousy anyway. It is an age old problem that, until now, had yet to be hit on the head.

This is where ‘Silent Social’ come in. By introducing a new entertainment concept, that is commonly known as a ‘silent disco’, all of the above problems are banished with one easy solution; a solution, which has been proven to be hugely successful across the Europe and the world.

Guessed it? Well, I’ll tell you. By simply taking your usual venue full of punters and giving them a pair of wireless headphones, ‘Silent Social’ give you the choice of two DJ’s at the flick of a switch. The venue then becomes awash with revellers dancing and singing to seemingly nothing, as Silent Social DJ’s keep the party going from doors to curfew. You can choose what you groove to and turn it up or down to your hearts content.

135 Years of The Criterion

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

crit 1

On 2 February London’s landmark Criterion Restaurant celebrated 135 years of fabulous dining with a star-studded anniversary dinner for 100 invited guests including  Jaime Winstone, Rhys Iffans, Trinny Woodall, Lara Bohnic, Jessie and Tilly Wood, Jo Wood, David Gandy, Pam Hogg, Stephen and Assia Webster, Mike Figgis, Marie Helvin and James Rousseau.

The evening began with a glittering reception where Laurent Perrier Champagne, Karlsson’s Gold Vodka and Louis XIII Remy Martin helped to get the party started alongside some luxurious canapés.

There followed by a lavish three course dinner of Poached native lobster, Galloway beef fillet and Velhrona chocolate tart – lovingly prepared by executive chef Matthew Foxon.

And after dinner, model Daisy Lowe who attended with mum Pearl was invited to cut the birthday cake and did the honours with aplomb.

Originally opened in 1873 it was at the fabled restaurant that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first imagined the meeting between Dr. Watson and the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes. The Criterion was also the venue of choice for the brave suffragettes and Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George met there regularly as they shaped the future of British politics.

This is one old lady who’s certainly not for turning …
