Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Emma Watson’s People Tree collection will make its catwalk debut this September  at The Prince of Wales’ eco festival, A Garden Party To Make A Difference.

The fashion show of the actresses’ spring/summer 2011 collection will take place on September 12 at 3.30pm and will be held in the historic Friary Court of St James’ Palace.  Watson created her first collection for the Fair Trade and organic clothing label last year, frustrated by the lack of clothing aimed at people her age.

“I’m so thrilled that People Tree will be showing the spring/summer collection at A Garden Party To Make A Difference. I think The Prince of Wales’ initiative is such a brilliant idea and I’m thrilled,” says Watson of her involvement with the event .

Peroni’s La Dolce Vita

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

We’ve become accustomed to movie greats such as Martin Scorsese, Baz Luhrmann and Ridley Scott directing ad campaigns for the likes of Chanel but now esteemed Italian director, Gabriele Muccino of The Pursuit of Happyness fame has shot the new campaign for beer brand Peroni Nastro Azzurro!

“I wanted to explore the emotion, craftsmanship and timelessness that is at the heart of all things Italian,” enthused the director.

A far cry from the Hollywood machismo of crashing waves and surfing horses, the new ad, Senza Tempo, draws on the brand’s more cinematic La Dolce Vita associations and a very fashionable collaboration with classic Italian label, Moschino – which created bespoke costumes for the entire cast – makes for an impossibly stylish affair.

Shot against a backdrop of the eternal city of Rome, up-and-coming Italian actor Francesco Scianna plays the role of a young director set on recreating a lost love (gorgeous newcomer, Gioia Mazzocchi) through the medium of film.

To celebrate the launch and the 50th anniversary of La Dolce Vita, Peroni is embarking on an Accademia del film Wrap Party Tour which kicks off at London’s Old Truman Brewery on the 26th August with an interactive exhibition of Italian film.

Girls on Film

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Fashion film has certainly taken off as a major trend in recent months. From the big-budget Chanel affairs to the quirkier shorts in the making from Alexander Wang and Proenza Schouler, it is no surprise that Brit favourites Savannah and Sienna Miller chose the medium to promote their newest collection for their brand Twenty8Twelve.

The sisterly team took a trip to Hilles, the Gloucestershire home of Isabella and Detmar Blow, to film their clothes in motion. The venue is said to have proved great inspiration for the late Alexander McQueen, who was a great friend of the infamously stylish Blow. In an interview with British Vogue, Sienna talked of the inspirational setting in relation to their fashion vision for Fall/Winter: “The rich tapestries, velvets and eclectic style of the house completely reflect the elements of our autumn/winter collection. I loved filming in every room.”

Sienna stars in the movie alongside Sara Blomqvist, under the direction of Angelo Penetta. Savannah said of the collaboration, “We feel it makes the story come alive and it was amazing to work with Angelo”. Take a look at the highly polished piece at Vogue online: http://tiny.cc/23eya

Jimmy Choo To Market?

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

The eponymous empire that has fed the footwear fetishes of women across the globe and became a household name in the process is rumoured to be seeking advice on making the big sell.

Jimmy Choo has attained huge success thanks to the drive and business acumen of Tamara Mellon, who founded the company alongside Jimmy Choo himself in 1996. Although the cobbler’s name has gone on to become a megabrand, he sold out of the group in 2001. Mellon currently owns a fifth of the company, which initial guesses are valuing at between £450m and £500m, equating in a healthy £100m share for the fashionable socialite.

The company’s humble beginnings only highlight the immense growth and success of the brand, which, helped along by shows such as Sex and the City, transformed the way women (and men) shop for shoes. The extensive collections released each season are guaranteed to be on trend and highly coveted, with the typically high prices not troubling Choo’s most die-hard fans. With 100 stores across 32 countries, the sale or indeed possible flotation of this contemporary brand is a matter of global fashionista importance.

Condé Nast Restaurants

Monday, August 9th, 2010

If you’ve ever wanted to climb between the pages of a glossy magazine and experience the lifestyle for yourselves, you will soon have the chance. No longer content with chronicling the world’s best restaurants, the group plans to create its own!

Condé Nast, the magazine publisher whose titles include Vogue, Vanity Fair and GQ, has just launched a new business division aimed at starting licensed restaurants around the world.

Condé Nast Restaurants will be based in Hong Kong and boasts Stuart Nielsen, former regional director of food, beverage and design for the Middle East & Africa at InterContinental Hotels Group, as director of restaurants.

“The opportunity to open branded restaurants with Condé Nast is a dream for me and I am thrilled to take it on. It is a business with huge potential,” he says.

The idea was born in Moscow where Condé Nast has already licensed Vogue Cafe and GQ Bar to independent operator, Arkady Novikov, who has also recently opened the Tatler Club.

Nielsen continues, “restaurants are a natural way to extend our brand values and to reach our customers while championing the highest standards of quality.”

There’s talk of  Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, China, Japan, Korea, Turkey, Brazil and Uruguay where Condé Nast plans to partner with luxury restaurant operators.

However, the question is, will they provide calorie contents on their menus?
