A Little More Love

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

To follow up on a previous post, ‘Bare Naked Love’, we bring you the latest in our obsession with the naked beauties who adorned the cover of Love magazine in honour of the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

The Spring/Summer shots of eternal catwalk favourites including Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and newcomer Lara Stone now adorn simple grey tees by Gap – you know the kind, a weekend favourite – and are on sale now in limited edition at Dover Street Market and Colette only, priced at £30/€35. Never one to follow a crowd, the proceeds from Kate’s t-shirt alone will go to a UK children’s charity rather than the Haiti fund.

The shirts follow hot on the heels of the Love magazine covers printed on apparel by Marc by Marc Jacobs in September 2009…are Love on to something here? !

Petrus

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Earlier this year foul mouthed celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay could have been forgiven for uttering more than just the ‘f’ word as last month he was stripped of one of his prestigious Michelin stars at Claridge’s.  However, the start of 2010 for Gordon isn’t all bad news as he will be re-opening Petrus in Belgravia with new and exciting dynamic themes.

Gordon

Design for the new Petrus has been undertaken by The Russel Sage Studio, who have created a fresh dinning space.  With the new location’s focal point being a stunning open cellar displaying over 2000 bottles of wine, there will be no shortage of choice when selecting a wine to match the modern French cuisine on offer.  The menu will comprise of mouth-watering dishes such as ‘baked line caught sea bass with confit fennel and caviar sauce’.

Think you can stand the heat of Gordon’s kitchen?  Experience the temperature rise at The Chef’s Table, while dinning on an exclusive menu, designed especially to demonstrate the intricacies of the dishes served.  Guests will also be in good hands as, with five years of charm under his belt and with scrupulous attention to detail, Jean-Philippe Susilovi returns to the new Petrus as one of London’s best hosts.

The new site for Petrus is 1 Kennerton Street, Belgravia. For more information and to keep updated on the Petrus news email petrus@gorgonramsay.com.

From Lulu with Love

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Lulu Guinness will be opening a lip-smackingly gorgeous pop-up store on Carnaby Street this coming Monday, not only adding a special aside to LFW and Valentine’s Day but also doing very valuable work in aid of young designers at the London College of Fashion.

The Kissed by Lulu Guinness store will be ‘lip-themed’, featuring the limited edition Lips clutch bag as seen in the grip of several famous fashion-lovers as well as the adorable purses and bags adorned with girlish goodness which we are accustomed to seeing at Lulu Guinness. The lady herself will be serving eager customers on the 8th, and has promised that her celebrity pals will be making an appearance to help out with the project.

A percentage of the sales from the store will go to the London College of Fashion to create bursaries to support their students studying the historical and contemporary practice of fashion, and to thus foster the cool creativity that London’s youth culture is known for. Last year, as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the brand, Lulu launched a scholarship for MA Accessories/Artefact Design, showing a significant commitment to the capital’s young designers.

Kissed by Lulu Guinness is open from Monday 8th to Monday 22nd February, 10am-7pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm-6pm on Sundays, and can be found at 65-67 Broadwick Street, London W1F 9QU. Mwah!

135 Years of The Criterion

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

crit 1

On 2 February London’s landmark Criterion Restaurant celebrated 135 years of fabulous dining with a star-studded anniversary dinner for 100 invited guests including  Jaime Winstone, Rhys Iffans, Trinny Woodall, Lara Bohnic, Jessie and Tilly Wood, Jo Wood, David Gandy, Pam Hogg, Stephen and Assia Webster, Mike Figgis, Marie Helvin and James Rousseau.

The evening began with a glittering reception where Laurent Perrier Champagne, Karlsson’s Gold Vodka and Louis XIII Remy Martin helped to get the party started alongside some luxurious canapés.

There followed by a lavish three course dinner of Poached native lobster, Galloway beef fillet and Velhrona chocolate tart – lovingly prepared by executive chef Matthew Foxon.

And after dinner, model Daisy Lowe who attended with mum Pearl was invited to cut the birthday cake and did the honours with aplomb.

Originally opened in 1873 it was at the fabled restaurant that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle first imagined the meeting between Dr. Watson and the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes. The Criterion was also the venue of choice for the brave suffragettes and Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George met there regularly as they shaped the future of British politics.

This is one old lady who’s certainly not for turning …

Bare Naked Love

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Love magazine has never been the shy and retiring type. Katie Grand’s directional publication under the Conde Nast label has just launched its third issue, and in true following of the naked form of Beth Ditto on the seminal cover, this edition comes in eight different designs, featuring the perfectly toned bodies of this generations hottest models.

Love have been carefully dropping a picture per day in the run-up to the big release date of the third issue, causing quite a hype in magazine-land. The shoot, orchestrated by talented duo Mert & Marcus, sees the eight girls – Kate, Naomi, Kristen, Amber, Natalia, Daria, Jeneil and Lara – striking identical poses without a scrap of couture to cover their dignity, emphasising the variations in body shape and form. Lara Stone, controversially deemed a larger model for being a massive size, erm, 4, looks amazing as always, showing that models CAN maintain the kinds of curves associated with mere mortal women.

The pictures are available to view in high res online at www.thelovemagazine.co.uk, whilst the magazine is on sale currently at Dover Street Market (and at Colette in Paris, should you be in the neighbourhood), and more widely as of tomorrow. A special collectors’ set of all 8 covers is available by dropping an email to info.love@condenast.co.uk
