Bungalow 8 gets Even more Chic!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

London’s uber trendy Bungalow 8 is about to get even more chic!  Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi are to style and design the uniforms for its staff.

“They’re based on a cocktail dress and have thick straps, one is in lace, and then the skirt is drape-y so there’s movement to it,” explains Thornton of the result of the collaboration – which came about when St Martins Lane hotel approached the duo with the idea.

Bungalow is something of a hotspot for those who wish to see and be seen, but will these new coktail dresses be as popular as the cocktails…..

“They really liked what we did and asked if we’d be interested to do the uniforms for the girls. We met with them and talked about the practicalities that they need,” says Thornton, noting the importance of collaborations. “We love the challenge. To challenge yourself, it keeps it fresh.”

Isabella Blow’s Collection Sold

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Last month we announced that Isabella Blow would be auctioning off her collection  of fashion pieces and photographs at  Christie’s . However yesterday it was revealed that that the auction had been cancelled as a private sale had taken place, ensuring that the collection would stay together. The buyer is rumoured to be Couture fan and friend of Isabella Blow, Daphne Guinness.

Guinness told Suzy Menkes of the New York Times yesterday, ‘It’s Issy – it’s her D.N.A, it should not be scattered to the four winds. Like any artist, it should not be dispersed, but remain as a monument with people having access to it.’

The sale, which was organised by Blow’s sisters, was to include over 90 McQueen dresses, 50 Treacy hats and portraits of Blow by photographer Mario Testino and Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld. There’s no doubting that, as a whole, it’s a slice of fashion history, and everyone is hoping  that it will be exhibited in a museum or gallery so that fans of Isabella can see it. A coffee table book that was to accompany the sale will still be published in September.

The site will feature over 60 brands including Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Lanvin and YSL. Alongside the global must-have brands, the site will stock new designer finds and local specialists. Massenet is convinced finding a menswear customer base will not be a problem.

“We have a ready-made customer base for our men’s business,” she asserted. “100 per cent of Net-A-Porter customers have a man in their lives in some capacity and 59 per cent of them are married or living with their partners. 3 million unique users trust and love Net-A-Porter’s service and will be invited to make a purchase for the men in their lives. Additionally we look forward to welcoming a new group of super stylish men.”
