Times BFI

What an opening.

This years Times BFI London Film Festival has just announced that this year the festival will open with the world premiere of Universal Pictures’ new drama

FROST/NIXON.

This drama has one brilliant team behind it. It has been adapted from the stage play by BAFTA-winning scriptwriter Peter Morgan and is being produced by Oscar-winning director/producer Ron Howard and Oscar-winning producer Brian Grazer, together with BAFTA award-winning producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

Could it get any better.

But can this fantastic play work as a film?

FROST/NIXON focuses on journalist David Frost, played by Michael Sheen and President Richard Nixon, played by Frank Langella, and their televised interviews in 1977 which attracted the largest audience for a news program in the history of American TV. The play does not only re-create the on-air interviews but also looks at the weeks leading up to the interviews. It shows the behind-the-scenes situations between the two men and their camps as they negotiated and made deals. This all leads up to the climatic moment when these two men finally sit face to face in the court of public opinion.

Not only does this film have an Oscar winning crew but the supporting cast is inspiring. The cast includes actors Kevin Bacon, Sam Rockwell, Oliver Platt, Rebecca Hall, Toby Jones and Matthew Macfadyen.

The Times BFI London Film Festival begins Wednesday 15 October.

Universal Pictures will release the film in the UK on 9 January 2009

The Festival runs from 15-30 October 2008
