Sonia Rykiel for H&M

Sonia Rykiel

Another designer has jumped onto the High street bandwagon. Last week it was Christopher Kane for Topshop, now Sonia Rykiel is designing for H&M.

This winter will see the Parisian ‘Queen of Knits’ take on a new genre, this time stepping into the world of lingerie and accessories. The collection is set to launch in 1,500 H&M stores worldwide, as well as Sonia Rykiel’s major boutiques around the world. This will be the first time that H&M will see a designer foray into lingerie and accessories.

Known for her hallmark of individuality, Rykiel describes her designs as “la demonde” (unfashion). Rykiel’s quirky and unconventional style has lead her to become a leading designer since her first boutique was opened in 1968. Typical signature techniques include inside-out stitching, colourful stripes and knit pullovers. It is therefore no surprise that Rykiel will also be unveiling a knitwear collection in February 20th, 2010 which will reach 250 H&M stores.

Not only is Rykiel a national icon and an author of nine books, but she is also an influential presence on the French social and cultural scene. H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch describes Sonia Rykiel as, “a true fashion icon who invented a signature style around femininity, Parisian chic and modernity – as well as functional, comfortable, wearable clothes. She has an attitude that inspires admiration among women of all ages around the world.” We recommend you get there early…
