Matthew Williamson for H&M

Here’s a tip: take a sneaky peek at Matthew Williamson’s first collection for H&M out next month and be the first to snap up his finest creations for spring/summer at a bargain price.
The quirky designer joins a rostrum of other top designers, namely, Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli and Viktor & Rolf, all of whom have successfully collaborated with the high street brand.
‘It’s been fascinating to search back through my archives [in the past 11 years] to isolate the most iconic pieces, then rework them for H&M,’ Matthew says. ‘The spirit of the collection is both covetable and precious.’
All of the signature style elements present in his main collections are seen throughout the new and exciting collection. ‘Colour is one of the defining aspects of my style. I focussed on the iconic peacock motif seen across my collections to develop a palette of blues, chartreuse and emerald,’ Williamson adds.
As expected, vivacious colours and prints are strewn across the desirable pieces which include a taupe play suit with stitching detail, an electric blue micro-dress with an impressive peacock motif and a fabulous patchwork-inspired maxi-dress that would be perfect for any summer party or beach.
So put April 23 in your diaries and practice your jostling techniques – these frocks are bound to fly out of the stores. But don’t fret, the collaboration will return for a second summer instalment (thankfully featuring even more beachwear pieces) and will be available from May 14 and, for the first time in H&M’s designer collaboration history, will be on sale in every single one of its stores.
