If you are on a quest for the most exquisite porcelain, if you are looking for inspiration for the perfect afternoon tea or even if you just want to admire some beautiful craftsmanship, then head to Fortnum & Mason next month. The Piccadilly store will play host for their new teapot exhibition which will run from April 6 until May 31 this year.

The exhibition will be Herend china’s first UK showcase in over a decade and will include selected pieces from the Herend museum. To celebrate 301 years of business, 301 Herend teapots will be for sale alongside more contemporary crockery and vases.

The auction will be a ticketed evening event, hosted by antiques expert Eric Knowles. All proceeds will be donated to the Cutty Sark Conservation Project. The Cutty Sark was built as a tea clipper in 1869 and was one of the fastest sailing ships in the Great Tea Race from China. However in May 2007 the Cutty Sark was destroyed by a fire so all funds raised will go towards its restoration.

Visitors of the store will be able to see the exhibition on the first floor with the auction taking place on the 28th April 2009 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm in the St James’s Restaurant at Fortnum & Mason. Tickets cost £15 and are available from Fortnum & Mason, 0845 300 1707 or  email orders@fortnumandmason.co.uk.
