A Rum Award for 1 Lombard Street

You might not have realized amid the madness that is the BAFTAS and LFW, but another awards ceremony took place this week with a distinctly alcoholic flavour.

Chairman’s Reserve Rum has been running an inspired competition for London’s leading chefs entitled, St Lucia Distillers. The aim of the game was to produce a fabulous dish using Chairman’s Reserve.

And although it was a close run thing, Herbert Berger, Chef Patron at 1 Lombard Street just pipped Matthew Harris of Bibendum and Adam Gray of Rhodes 24 to the finishing post with his winning combination of Roast Pineapple with Rum & Oriental Spices, Chilli, Coriander & Lime Syrup and Coconut & Rum Sorbet on the side.

But his was no empty victory consisting of an award to grace the smallest room.

Berger won return tickets to stay at the exclusive Cap Maison in St Lucia courtesy of the island’s tourist board.  And we’re sure he’ll appreciate a few nights off from cooking while dining at the hotel’s Cliff at Cap restaurant overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

However it won’t be all play and no work as Berger will be collaborating with the restaurant’s executive chef Craig Jones on a brand new dish.  Jones’ nouveau French meets West Indian cuisine is the talk of the island so expect a real Caribbean flavour next time you visit 1 Lombard!
