Prep your skin for summer with Jo Malone’s Vitamin E Skin Scrub

kohdo-wood-bathing-soak-lid-on

Ok so it hasn’t quite happened yet but we’re sure we’ll be displaying a whole lot more skin on a pretty protracted basis anytime soon. But limbs that have spent the last few months hibernating under a veil of Current Elliot jeans and black opaques need a whole lot of TLC before they are ready to see the full light of the sun’s rays and expose themselves in all their glory. But happily that’s where Jo Malone, posh purveyor of expert skincare comes in. The brand’s gorgeous Vitamin E Skin Scrub is a luxuriously revitalising, non-abrasive treatment that sloughs away dead skin cells in one fell sweep to the reveal radiant looking new skin that’s just dying to be seen. And if you’re after the science bit, vitamin E is a powerful anti-oxident that helps to protect the skin from the environment while the natural exfolient properties of the salt particles in the preparation help to reduce the build up of toxins without damaging the skin’s delicate surface.

Singledon……An East End Wimbledon???

andaz_exterior_480

This actually sounds like too much fun!

For all you lucky single people out there this might be just the night you might meet The One. And what a great story it would be to tell the children and grandchildren.

I’ll explain – This summer the Upper Gallery within The Atrium space at Andaz which previously played host to London’s only indoor beach is being temporarily transformed in to an English Summer Garden with indoor grass, tress and roses.

But for the opening night something very different is going to take place. Due to the fact that the Garden is being opened during Wimbledon a Singles’ (dating) event will take place on Friday 26 June. But wait for it, it gets even better.

On arrival, each guest will be given a number/point and directed towards a large scoreboard (or the bar!), where match times are posted. When a match is announced, players must find another person with the same number. When they find a corresponding number/point, they must declare game, set and match to the umpire (note: some players may move around the court if they prefer to serve again – not everyone can be ace’d!).

The first couple to reach the umpire and declare a perfect match will be treated to a complimentary dinner in one of the hotel’s restaurants – right then and there. At this point, however, the lady can declare a “fault”, and decide to redeem this offer on another date with another player.

Matches will continue, at intervals throughout the night.

The prizes include – Dinner in 1901, Catch, Eastway, Miyako or the George Pub, as well as a number of cocktail giveaways.

But if this whole tennis game is not your sort of thing do not be put off because this event is not solely for the enjoyment of the players. Spectators are welcome to join in or just join the party. The tennis theme will continue with a food and drinks menu that includes the good old favourites of strawberries & cream and Champagne (all served with a twist) And just so you don”t miss any of the really tennis Wimbledon highlights will be shown on plasma screens from “Andaz Hill”!

The party will continue on into the night with dancing and anyone who comes dressed as a Womble will receive a complimentary cocktail.

Secret Cinema Returns

Get set for a magical cinematic mystery tour of epic proportions…

Fans of Secret Cinema’s clandestine screenings will be pleased to know that it’s back for an all-singing all-dancing return to the capital on Saturday 20th June 2009. And, as usual, it all remains strictly, well…secret! If you’re not already in the loop, the venture offers a unique cinematic experience as the locations of the mystery screenings are only revealed a day before the event to those who have signed up to the mailing list and bought tickets via the website www.secretcinema.org

Past extravaganzas have seen live rescores, special guests, installation artists, musicians and performers with locations ranging from derelict theatres to city rooftops showing anything from premieres and exclusive previews to cult classics and time honoured favourites from June 2005.

The last screening saw over 2,000 film buffs descending on the Shepherds Bush Empire to find the surrounding streets transformed into a 1980’s metal fest to celebrate the UK premiere of The Story of Anvil and the band themselves even put in a surprise performance live on stage after the film.

Previous events have also included the classic Ghostbusters at both the Royal Horticultural Halls, the vintage Marx Brothers movie A Night at the Opera at the newly refurbished Hackney Empire and an exclusive preview of Gus Van Saint’s Paranoid Park in a disused railway tunnel in South London.

If a spot of tea is what you are after one afternoon why not pop in to Harvey Nichols and up to the 5th Floor where a rather special kind of afternoon tea is being served.

And when I say special, I truly mean special. Inspired by Laura Merciers delicious fragrance Vanille Gourmande  Harvey Nichols’ own master tea blenders have created a new blend of tea leaves that is every bit as lush as the fragrance.

This sweet-scented and luscious blend of vanilla, rose, jasmine and green Chinese tea, accompanied by some delightful treats by Executive Chef Jonas Karlsson, will have you booking tables for the rest of the summer.

Vanille Gourmande Afternoon Tea

 Smoked salmon and horseradish

Cheese and pickle

Egg mayonnaise finger sandwiches

Scones with homemade kumquat and vanilla marmalade, clotted cream

Vanilla and lemon infused cupcake

 Chocolate praline mousse cake

Raspberry Éclair with rose and raspberry cream

 Chocolate, pistachio and peach macaroons

Afternoon tea from £19.95.

And if you love the tea so much why not indulge in a bottle of the actual scent.

This is the scent of the summer.
