teddie-low-res2

Yummie Tummie, the chic shapewear that recently took the fashion world by storm, is launching its sexy new line “The Teddie” and already it seems set to match the runaway success of the rest of the Yummie Tummie collection.

Shining reviews from America helped rocket Yummie Tummie to fame over here last year, but it has to be said this is one product that lives up to all the hype. Designed to be seen, and sleek enough for layering, this modern day body shaper gets you results without the need for crunches or lipo. We tested both the Lacie and the Freedom T tank and cami tops and found they dramatically smoothed away lumps and bumps – thanks to the unique micro fibre panel – without feeling at all heavy and restrictive.

The brainchild of Heather Thompson – a one time stylist to stars such as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez – Yummie Tummie is set to revolutionise the shapewear market and is fast on track to become the “must-have” addition to a girl’s wardrobe. The new “Teddie” line is available in plum, black and nude, and joins the new Spring styles launched earlier this year.

With Yummie Tummie garments now available in over 30 stories in the UK, including Harrods, Net-a-Porter and The Cross, the summer just got skimpier.

Agents of Cool

Selfridges’ flagship store will be launching a spectacular new venture in September, thanks to the sweet treats offered by subversive new ice cream brand The Icecreamists.

The Selfridges’ Ultralounge has been the purveyor of many types of finery since its launch in 2006, and this edible new dessert service will be mixing up a range of delectable yet guilty pleasures, including boutique ice cream flavours, frozen yogurts and sorbettos, all freshly prepared daily by the masters of cool. The Icecreamists is the brainchild of entrepreneur Matt O’Connor, who is developing his business acumen through a variety of launches all based around his love for the frozen dessert, which he describes as the “world’s greatest socialising agent”.

So grab some friends and have a catch-up over a cryogenic ice cream cocktail made with liquid nitrogen, or perhaps the Selfridges Ice Cream Sandwich made with cream of cucumber. Or for the more racy customer, opt for The Sex Pistol, a shot of viagra ice cream in a pink water pistol…

PJ’s Bar and Grill on the fashionable Fulham Road is the original smoothie! Restaurateur and polo aficionado, Brian Stein, launched the hip venue back in 1990 as a testament to his love of good food and polo, the beautiful game of the beautiful people.

PJ’s stands for Polo Joe’s and the atmospheric Boston styled interior is awash with pieces of polo history from lovely black and white and sepia prints to winners’ trophies, cups and historic balls and mallets from the glory days. The double height space boasts a unique installation too – suspended from the ceiling is a classic wooden aeroplane propeller from one of the very first Vickers-Vimy crafts of the Twentieth Century.

Stein also hosts an annual polo party to mark the start of the UK season, the guest list of which, reads as a veritable Who’s Who for the sport’s glitterati.

We visited the restaurant on a balmy summer’s evening and its clientele proved as gorgeous and glamorous as chukka-winning polo ponies themselves – nubile young fillies with endless coltish legs and enough eligible young studs that were enough to make a girl go weak at the knees.

And that was before we even tasted the mouthwateringly delicious food!  Starters of Pan Seared Scallops with Pea Puree and Chorizo and Wild Mushroom Open Ravioli with Tarragon Veloute were outstanding and as for the mains of Sea Bass and 28 Day Aged Fillet Steak (grilled to our exact specifications) – well, we were left in a state of pure bliss!

Rok the Boat

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Yet another fashion collaboration is planned for Fall/Winter, but this time the resulting collection is looking much more interesting. High street staple Whistles, who have had a quiet run in recent times, have enlisted the help of London Fashion Week favourite Roksanda Ilincic, whose quirky twists on classic elegance bring a certain polish to the masses.

The young designer is reportedly ecstatic about the collection, saying “It’s so wonderful to see my work reaching a wider audience”. Having forged herself a permanent place at LFW, showing for the past 3 years, Ilincic has quickly learnt to climb the fashion industry ladder – after several seasons at Harvey Nichols internationally, she is finally set to hit London this year, and has worked with both Browns and Net-a-Porter to exhibit her work to the fashion elite. She has become renowned for using elements of 40s and 50s haute couture in her covetable cocktail and evening dresses, which manage to be both romantic and feminine yet carry sharp, modern twists.

It is an aesthetic which Whistles, too, are excited about. CEO Jane Shepherdson said, “We have worked closely at every stage of the design process with Roksanda to capture her unique sense of play and contrast in colour, fabric and texture. It would be hard not to fall in love with the resulting collection”.

Priced from £175 to £300, the collection will be available from early September, in selected stores and concessions in Harrods, Selfridges and Brown Thomas.

Truffle

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

In the culinary world, the truffle is the king of ingredients – rare, organic, luxurious. Take this concept and apply it to fashion, and you have Truffle, a British luxury womenswear label founded by Sofia Strazzanti. The company offers an exclusive and bespoke service, reminiscent of Savile Row precision, paired with contemporary European design.

Sofia comes from a long line of Italian ancestors immersed in the craftsmanship of clothes, and thus her appreciation of the finer cuts and designs was born. She says of her company, “I want to feel special in what I wear, like it was designed for me alone. Hence a made-to-order and bespoke concierge shopping service with contemporary day, work and evening outfits.”

The concept of raw vs. luxury lies at the heart of the company’s aesthetic – a neutral palate, inspired by raw woods and metals, with flashes of natural vibrant gems. Pieces are also adorned with intricate hand-beading, while silhouettes remain simple and effortless.

Sofia runs her concierge service to the customer’s home or office, talking through her designs, materials, and inspiration. Each garment is made-to-measure and cannot fail to show each woman at her individual best. If you’re in need of some special treatment, contact Truffle through truffledesign.com or on 020 7193 8752.
