Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden 2009 launches today marked by an exclusive party at Tini, South Kensington, hosted by Vanity Fair, Donatella Versace and Colin McDowell.
The hottest thing to hit British fashion in the last 20 years, this is the sixth year of Fashion Fringe and the third year it will be hosted at Covent Garden. The challenge is to encourage emerging cutting edge design talent in the UK’s fashion industry and the winner will receive in excess of £100,000 worth of support and funding. Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden has launched the careers of nine successful rising fashion stars and last year’s winner Eun Jeong’s ‘Go by a Secret Path’ collection is now available through Net-a-Porter.com and at Selfridges.

Launched in 2004 under the creative direction of Colin McDowell, this year it will again be chaired by Donatella Versace. Supporting her in her role as honorary chairperson will be an international judging panel including Natalie Massenet, founder of Net-a-porter.com, Joshua Schulman, CEO of Jimmy Choo, Anne Pitcher, Head of Buying at Selfridges and Roy Peach, Dean of MA Fashion at London College of Fashion.

Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden Accessories 2009 also launches today. The exciting new initiative will be chaired by Tamara Mellon, Founder and President of Jimmy Choo. The winner will be awarded a 6-month apprenticeship at Jimmy Choo.

L’Albereta

Monday, March 16th, 2009

A luxurious Italian spa hotel has created the ultimate new health and relaxation package, based on the programme followed by Elle “The Body” Macpherson who was a recent guest.

The Body Programme at L’Albereta is a seven day experience, including full board accomodation with a detoxifying diet courtesy of the hotel’s 2 Michelin star kitchens. The list of health treatments is endless – guests benefit from medical, dietary, and bioenergetic check-ups, hydrotherapy, custom massages, private yoga lessons and more. Staff will also help plan your health for the period after your stay, making this far more than just a holiday. Far from the harsher boot-camp style experiences more commonly found in L.A., L’Albereta also offers more typical leisure pursuits, from learning to cook with the Michelin chefs, vineyard tours and wine tasting, and excursions in the surrounding Italian countryside.

Prices for The Body programme are from £4900, including all flights, transfers, accomodation and treatments, available through Essential Escapes.

Snow Leopard

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

If you’re celebrating something big in the near future, or fancy splurging in a philanthropic fashion, here’s something to consider – Snow Leopard Vodka, the brand who not only make a finely distilled spirit but donate a significant percentage to charity – are seeing in their third birthday with sales of 25 very exclusive jeroboams.  They are the first 25 ever filled, and each purchase is individually numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Snow Leopard supports the Snow Leopard Trust UK, and will be donating an extra £30 of each jeroboam sale to the charity, which aims to protect the lives of the planet’s remaining snow leopards, currently estimated at under 5000. Retailing at £253.49 and exclusively available at TheDrinkShop.com, the supersized bottles are equivalent to four standard spirit bottles, and make 56 generous martinis – perfect for a party. And thanks to its small scale production and four stage distillation process, an exceptional taste is guaranteed every time. Awarded for its taste and finish, Snow Leopard is a distinctive and worthy name in the drinks industry, and truly special in its conservation goals.

Goop

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Yes, dear reader, you did read that title correctly. Goop. When a fashion-forward friend recently told me to check out www.goop.com I must admit I was a little baffled.

Goop is infact the newest offering from multi-talented supermummy Gwyneth Paltrow, who has turned her own fabulous life into an online lifestyle guide for the rest of the mortal world to follow. The clean and modern format is subdivided into things we should do, make, get, go and see, and sends dedicated fans a weekly newsletter to keep them on track with the life of an A-lister.

Paltrow has fought harsh criticism from the press since the website launched – the New York Times, most famously, published an article recently questioning Gwyneth’s relevance as holistic guru. Gwyneth fought her corner, however, and told People magazine that those who have criticised her site simply “don’t get it”. Obviously the journalists need to take a few minutes to follow her lead and “nourish the inner peace”…
