Love Duran Duran?

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Calling all Duran Duran fans… The Simon Le Bon led eighties band are making a comeback (again!) but have announced that the only UK festival they will be performing at this year will be London’s Lovebox in Victoria Park.

Duran Duran

They will headline alongside unlikely acts NERD and festival founders, Groove Armanda at the two-day event which begins on July 18.The band are huge fans of the festival and are reportedly “delighted” to have been asked to take to the stage by Groove Armada’s Tom and Andy.

Le Bon said: “The band are big fans of the festival and we were delighted to be asked by Tom and Andy [Groove Armada] to take part.

He added: “We were on the road for the whole of 2008 and are now back in the studio working on new music.”

Though the group never officially disbanded, an ongoing rift between guitarist Andy Taylor and the rest of the band saw him being replaced recently by Dom Brown.

The band have hinted that their 13th album may be orchestral with some songs sounding as though they have been performed live at one of their concerts. Perhaps Lovebox will influence their new material…

The Brits Critic Choice award winners, Florence & The Machine, have also been added to the Saturday night bill, along with Friendly Fires and New Zealand band Fat Freddys Drop.

Which sounds like a two-day experience not to be missed.

Figleaves Swimwear

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Forget freezing temperatures and icy roads, now is the time to start sorting out what to wear on the beach this summer.

Figleaves Aguaclara

So what’s tipped to be hot? Shimmery metallics, hot shades of coral, acid brights, dramatic cutaways, floral prints. And the online site figleaves.com has put together an array of amazing trend led pieces, including the new O Beach collection and the latest from the likes of Aguaclara, Vitamin A and Vix Swimwear, that are both vibrant and eye-catching.

Figleaves has gained itself a well-deserved reputation as being one of the best online shops for buying lingerie and swimwear and has expanded rapidly over the past 10 years. So with prices starting between £12 and £18 for a bikini top and £25 for a one piece, it could be the perfect way to make a credit-crunch-friendly splash this summer.

Eun Jeong

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

One of net-a-porter’s latest fashion finds is Korean-born designer Eun Jeong, whose lavish silken creations have attracted great press interest since she was awarded the prestigious Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden trophy in 2008.

Jeong will be exhibiting her collection at London Fashion Week this Friday, and having just been snapped up by Selfridges, too (and more importantly, on show in their legendary windows), a strong reception is anticipated.

Combining her loves for draping and tailoring with a strong business acumen, learnt from her time as a manager of a large textiles firm, Jeong encompasses all that is celebrated in young British fashion. Her recognition at Fashion Fringe, the talent-seeking platform created by Colin McDowell MBE, is a sure sign of imminent success – if we had survived scrutiny and judging by the Fashion Fringe at Covent Garden panel (Natalie Massenet, Donatella Versace, Roland Mouret), we’d feel pretty invincible right now.

Brit confused?

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

In anticipation of the 2009 Brit Awards this evening, comment must be made on some of the questionable nominees up for awards (not least on Scouting For Girls, who’ve somehow managed to make it into three categories).
Girls Aloud
The award ceremony, held at London’s Earls Court, will be presented by Kylie Minogue, James Corden and Mathew Horne (with the Gavin and Stacey stars admitting they’ve yet to rehearse) and a no doubt eccentric and entertaining performance by Lady GaGa with the Petshop Boys expected to be one of the highlights of the night. But looking at some of the nominations, the rest of the evening could be a slight disappointment.

Ian Brown and Paul Weller are up for British Male Solo Artist, who along with Will Young, we were unaware they’d even released anything for years (anything worth listening to anyway).

Florence And The Machine have already been announced as the winners of the Critic’s Choice Award (when runner up Little Boots should have won) and Scouting For Girls have been nominated for British Live Act, Breakthrough Act and British Single (it’s a travesty against music!).

But as long as Girls Aloud (Best Single), MGMT (International Album) and Elbow (British Album) pick up their awards and Duffy wins absolutely nothing, it might not be so bad.

Kate not expecting

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Kate Moss has denied rumours that she is currently pregnant and put the visible bump, that she was recently sporting after dining at The Ivy with Topshop tycoon Philip Green, as all down to being a woman.

Kate, who rarely speaks publicly or gives interviews, told New York magazine, (with Philip present):

” I am a woman now! It’s true.

“No, honestly, I’ve never worn a bra in my life. Ever! It’s so awful, even my friends are phoning me up and saying “Are you pregnant?” And I’m like, “No! I just put on a couple of pounds, and they went in the right place.”

The supermodel graces the cover and models her Topshop range in a series of shots inside which have remained airbush free. And she almost looks, well, ordinary.

Also in the interview, Kate recalls how unimpressed she was with Hollywood stars Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise when they “cut in line” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York last year.

She added:

“We stood in line for an hour or something to say hello to the meet and greet in the receiving line… we’re going, I can’t believe this. You can’t smoke. You can’t have a drink…

“We were like, What? Tom and Katie just walked right up to the front, and we were like, “Who the f**k are they? They’re not even in fashion.”‘

You can take the supermodel out of Croydon…
