Buddha Bar

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Buddha Bar the renowned Paris based restaurant and bar has come to London.  Located under Waterloo Bridge, it is spread over two floors with a mixture of private areas surrounding the Pan Asian restaurant and a bar serving an extensive cocktail menu in the gallery.

The Buddha Bar

Buddha Bar, the brainchild of Raymond Visan first found fame in the 90s as a Parisian DJ bar and oriental restaurant.  The house CDs were so sought after, they brought Buddha Bar to international audience.  However, the competition for East meets West sensibility is growing fast and with rival restaurants such as Hakkasan, expanding their chain further, perhaps Buddha bar needs to up the anti to remain in the game.

While it still has its enthusiasts who claim it still delivers, its restaurant has had sketchy reviews.  However, if you just feel like a laid back drink, the cocktail bar is definitely worth a look.

Yet, whatever the critics’ view, Visan seems set to take Buddha bar even further afield, with his seventh site planned in Jakarta to open soon.

Art for Baby

Monday, August 4th, 2008

So you’ve tried a bit of Beethoven in the womb, French in the first few months and Dumas instead of a Dummy. Parents love to help that new baby in their lives develop, and hopefully get a leg up the ladder for later in life.

Thanks to the people at Templar Publishing Baby can now add art appreciation to their arsenal of skills. A book to be launched in early October features artists such as Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Julian Opie, Bridget Riley and David Shrigley.

Although at £14.99 it isn’t as cheap as ‘Where’s Spot?’ it does include a donation to the NSPCC and any profits will also go to them.

The Tate Modern may need to be prepared for the onslaught of pushchairs and prams in November.

Wine Wand

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Stuck again for something to by that one person in your life who seems to have everything and anything they don’t have already they will soon or if they don’t have it then they definitely don’t want it.

You know where I’m going with this.

Well, I have a solution for the problem.

The ideal Christmas gift, or any gift, for those who are impossible to buy for and enjoy wine, I give you the Philip Stein Wine Wand.

I know what you’re thinking. A Wine Wand?

Philip Stein who is a leader in mind-body wellness through frequency-based technology in luxury products has created this new and very distinctive accessory that has the ability to decant and enhance the natural aroma and flavour of wine. And apparently only in a matter of minutes. Genius, one might say.

Natural crystals are used because they generate a natural frequency that has the ability to perfectly aerate and decant the wine.

How to use it – insert into the wine bottle for about 5 minutes.

Easy.

There is no change in taste the wand only releases the wines flavors.

It’s the perfect gift for any wine connoisseur, collector or those who just appreciate a very good wine.

And it comes in two different sizes, one for travelling and one for keeping at home.

Christmas gift for Mr. Utterly Impossible, sorted.

I’ll tell you.

You have one very interesting and exciting new collection.Let me explain.

Oasis, our well known High Street brand, is collaborating with The Royal College or Art, our very new talent, to design their Autumn/Winter 08 collection.

The collaboration began as a competition set by Oasis to help support and reveal the talents of The Royal College of Art’s first year MA Fashion and Textile students.

The competition – to deign a modern and feminine collection.

Seems simple enough. But the pressure, intense.

Because the prize – your designs sold nationwide for Oasis’s A/W 08 Collection.

The result saw the fascinating work of seven entries that fused and manipulated disciplines to create an outstanding collection of individual pieces that focused on print and colour.

The winning collection – The Raven collection designed by Liam Evans, Clare McLachlan and Alison Dunlop which will open the RCA’s internationally renowned Gala catwalk show.

What a way to start one’s first year at Fashion school.
