Valentine's Day Deals

Love can be a stressful business and never more so than on 14 February. Let’s face it, you can’t even open your inbox at the moment without being assailed by a phalanx of Valentine’s Day deals so we thought we’d do the difficult job of rounding up the best of the bunch and leave you with the easy task of working out with whom to share your dinner / life.

They say that music is the food of love but Sketch has taken ‘them’ at their word. On 13 & 14 February, a harpist will serenade all you lovebirds as you arrive and prepare you for its six course tasting menu including Marinated Sea Bream & Turnip Cream with Campari, Truffle-Scented Bechamel Toast and Pink Champagne Jelly plus the obligatory glass of champagne, £195pp.

If you reckon it’s the thought that counts, then look away now. L'Etranger in Gloucester Road has by far the most decadent Valentine’s menu in London. Think 250g of Beluga Caviar served with a bottle of Cristal Rose 2000 - a snip at £1100! Otherwise, executive chef Jerome Tauvron has devised an extravagant six course menu featuring Kudu Fillet Steak from the Karoo Forest with Lavender Mash, Fennel Jelly & Black Pepper Crisp plus a half bottle of champagne! £85pp.

While staring into each other’s eyes all night is all very well, those with short attention spans might want to opt for a little diversion. So bring on the cabaret at Supperclub where you can indulge your loved one with a fabulous five course dinner in bed! The notorious Notting Hill restaurant is offering a delicious Valentine’s menu on 13 February including Artichoke & Tartufata Cappuccino & Pan-Fried Scallops to be enjoyed whilst relaxing on one of its famous white beds and enjoying romantically themed performance acts, £60pp.

For those ready to pop the question, the Whispering Gallery at St Paul’s Cathedral is the ideal setting but is also the perfect start to an afternoon tea for two at The Restaurant. Following a glass of sparkling rosé, you’ll share a selection of heart shaped finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, rose tea and lavender & chocolate mousse, £20.95pp.

However, if you’re still dithering why not take a chance on Gilgamesh. After enjoying Ian Pengelley’s pan-Asian menu, three courses, £50pp, you can try your luck with the ‘Diamonds are Forever’ pink martini cocktail available throughout the Valentine's weekend. One lucky guest will find a real diamond worth £600 at the bottom of their glass - courtesy of Karl Karter Fine Jewellery at whose Hatton Garden studios they can design a bespoke setting for their stone. And if you win, we reckon you should take it as a sign that you’re meant to be together!

Swanky Knightsbridge hotel Jumeirah Carlton Tower and equally plush sibling, the Jumeirah Lowndes Hotel in Belgravia are offering ‘Just the two of us’ overnight packages from £262, complete with champagne, strawberries and flowers, a massage each to get you in the mood and a late 2pm checkout the following morning... Both the Rib Room at the Carlton Tower and the Lowndes’ Mimosa restaurant have also pulled out all stops where their Valentine’s menus are concerned. We’re talking Oysters, Goose Liver, Aberdeen Angus and Chocolate Soufflé at the Rib Room and Foie Gras, Seabass and Hot Chocolate Fondant at Mimosa – from £65pp - including a glass of fizz and innovative palate cleansers of Lemon Sorbet with Chilled Vodka and Champagne & Pomegranate Sorbet. Quite enough to make a girl go weak at the knees!

Finally, those with a taste for the high life but a more modest budget can try their luck at Tom and Ed Martin’s gastropub, The Well. Book a table for two on 13 February and at 9pm following an aphrodisiac packed four-course feast, two randomly chosen diners will be whisked off for a night at the Malmaison hotel - absolutely free. The rest of you will still leave happy though, after sharing Lobster Thermidor and Salted Chocolate Tart with Lavender & Honey Ice Cream, from £30pp.

Ah Valentine’s Day, don’t you just love it?!
